The biggest shortcut is to chop the meat, onion and pepper the day before. Store the meat separately in a sealed container and pat it thoroughly dry before frying so it doesn't start stewing in the pot right away.

Variants and alternatives
For a more tender result use rump steak and slice it very thinly across the grain. If you want more vegetables, add 150 g of mushrooms sliced together with the red pepper. A spicier version is made by adding 1/4 teaspoon of chilli flakes together with the paprika.
